Social and Emotional Development
Teaching preschoolers how to understand and manage their feelings, get along well with others, and build friendships is a high priority. Our caring teachers help children develop important social skills through fun activities and supportive interactions. By focusing on these skills early on, we set our students up for success both in school and in life.
Small Class Sizes
Our small classes allow for more personalized attention, tailored instruction, and student success. Our average class size is 10 students, allowing for meaningful interactions and individualized support. Research shows smaller classes lead to better outcomes. Stages of Play Development
At Calvert Nursery School, we understand the importance of different stages of play development in children. Our curriculum is designed to support and encourage various types of play as children grow and learn. Children entering our 3’s program have recently transitioned from parallel play to associate play, interacting with peers during play but not much cooperation is required. Our classroom centers, activities, and group interactions help them to continue to develop the social skills needed for the next stage of play, cooperative play. In this stage, students work together towards a common goal. By recognizing and supporting these stages of play, we help children develop essential skills such as problem-solving, communication, and teamwork in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Foster Learning Inside and Out
Incorporating time outside provides unique opportunities for hands-on experiences, physical activity, and a connection to the natural world. Exploring outdoors daily allows children to develop important skills such as problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork. Whether drawing with chalk, swinging for the sky, making mud pies, or playing tag, each outdoor adventure presents new learning opportunities and sparks joy in our young learners.
